Domestic violence: Police say man threated woman with firearm

On Behalf of | Sep 9, 2020 | Domestic Violence

Charges of domestic violence are no small matter, whatever the circumstances may be. For survivors, it may be just one part of the process of getting away from an abuser. For those accused, the charges are serious and have the potential to significantly impact the accused individual’s future, whether the accusations are legitimate or if there may be more to the story. This is why it is imperative that domestic violence charges here in Maryland are handled properly. One local sheriff’s office is confident that its recent arrest of a suspect accused of domestic violence has accomplished just that.

Officials say that late last month, the Domestic Violence Intervention Division handled a call in which a woman accused a man of threating her with a gun. When officers responded, they say the victim claimed she and the suspect had a disagreement over child custody. She reportedly said that she had to flee with the child in question after the suspect threatened to shoot her and wielded a gun.

A few days later, authorities say they were able to track down the suspect at another residence. Officers say that they served a warrant for the suspect’s arrest when he answered the door. They also report that the man was taken into custody and that he did not resist officers. He has been charged with first and second degree assault, felony use of a firearm and reckless endangerment.

The accused person in this case may have an extensive legal battle in front of him. No matter what the truth may be, those convicted of domestic violence in Maryland have to contend with not just punishment through the criminal justice system, but effects on their personal lives as well. Despite that, domestic violence survivors shouldn’t feel shame for bringing charges over abuse at the hands of someone who is supposed to love and care for them. Whichever side of this issue a person is on, an experienced attorney can be a valuable asset in the pursuit of justice.
