Four charged in massive Maryland drug sweep

| Oct 12, 2013 | Drug Charges

Four Harford residents were taken into custody after a drug sweep that netted more than 1,400 grams of cocaine. The area’s drug task force succeeded in conducting a wiretap operation that culminated in the seizure of more than one kilogram of cocaine and the arrest of a 37-year-old Havre de Grace man who is being charged as the drug kingpin. The man had been the original focus of the investigation, which had been executed through several search warrants. The search uncovered 823 grams of cocaine as well as six firearms.

The man being charged as the kingpin has no criminal record except for a charge for drunk driving. His mother could not understand the charges, saying that the family is well respected within the community. She told authorities that he needed to come home to be with his three children, and added that others must have had more involvement in the crime. The state’s assistant attorney confirmed that the man did not have much of a criminal past.

A 39-year-old man was arrested in the drug roundup, and he also faces drug charges. More than 600 grams of cocaine were allegedly found in his home. He does not face charges as a kingpin; however, according to the state’s assistant attorney, he is above the man being charged as kingpin, because he is the supplier and the organizer. This appears to be opposite of what the charges appear to be.

Drug charges can be serious, and those facing them may benefit from speaking with a defense attorney who may be knowledgeable regarding Maryland state law. A lawyer might review every aspect of the case and may uncover details, such as incorrectly executed search warrants, which might provide some form of benefit as far as the outcome of the case is concerned.
