Police file charges for vehicle theft

On Behalf of | Apr 8, 2021 | Theft & Property Crimes

Two men were arrested following an incident with a flat tire and a vehicle that had allegedly been stolen. One of the two men — a 21 year old — is facing charges for multiple vehicle theft offenses, while the other — a 19 year old — was charged for illegally possessing a handgun. Police claim that some of the following were contributing factors to the arrests:

  • A flat tire
  • A crashed vehicle
  • An illegal handgun

According to Maryland police officers, the 21-year-old man and a friend were traveling together when they spotted the 19-year-old trying to fix a flat tire on the side of the road. The two friends pulled over and offered to help. However, police reported that the vehicle with the flat tire that the 19-year-old was driving was in fact already stolen.

A second stolen vehicle

As the older man and his friend attempted to swap out the flat tire, the younger man then attempted to steal their vehicle. He tried to get away while driving in reverse, but he crashed into the curb, which rendered the vehicle inoperable. He then told police that the older man caught up with him on foot and brandished a gun at him. Authorities later located a loaded gun close to the scene of the accident.

Both men were arrested on different charges, but they both face the possibility of serious criminal consequences. It is not uncommon for those who are charged with theft to spend time behind bars or shell out for hefty fines. Since a conviction can impact one’s future, most defendants in Maryland would be well advised to be proactive when it comes to creating a strong criminal defense.
