Being convicted of any kind of crime can have a negative impact upon a person’s life, but a conviction related to drugs can have far-reaching consequences. The judicial system takes these types of crimes very seriously, and society generally has an unforgiving opinion, as well. Multiple law enforcement agencies here in Maryland recently arrested numerous people they claim are connected to a drug ring. If convicted on drug charges, the accused may struggle for the rest of his or her life.
The joint operation included state and county police as well as special task forces from each. Authorities claim that multiple people were involved in a drug trafficking ring that distributed illegal prescription opioids, and both powder and crack cocaine. The individuals are accused of selling these drugs in multiple counties. Police executed search warrants across four homes, five vehicles and two different people after obtaining enough evidence.
Police say they recovered multiple items in their searches, including several different drugs, firearms, vehicles and over $17,000 in cash. Six people now face charges connected with the searches, with five of them charged with possession and intent to distribute. One of the five is also facing charges for possessing an illegal assault weapon.
These drug charges are very serious and conviction could result in a number of negative consequences. However, there are always two sides to every story and every person deserves his or her day in court. One of the most effective ways of doing so is by talking with an experienced criminal defense attorney here in Maryland. An attorney can help an accused person determine what options may be best for the circumstances presented.
