Drug possession is a more serious crime than people may realize. Sometimes those charged with it simply assume that distribution or manufacturing of drugs is much more significant. However, any type of drug charges has the potential to significantly impact a person’s life. If convicted here in Maryland, the individual may end up serving time in prison or paying a fine, but those aren’t the only possibilities. One woman may be about to find this out after authorities charged her with drug paraphernalia possession.

Police say that they recently received a call requesting a welfare check on a guest at a local hotel. When they arrived, they say they found a woman who seemed to display signs of impairment. The responding deputy claimed that when he went into the woman’s hotel room, he found a syringe next to the bed and syringe cap in the bathroom. It is not clear whether he found the woman in her room or somewhere on the hotel premises.

The woman was arrested and taken to the county detention center. She has been charged with Controlled Dangerous Substance: Possession of Paraphernalia. There is no word on whether this is the first time she has faced such an accusation or if police intend to file any further charges.

Charges like this can have a profound effect on people’s lives if they are convicted. Not only do they face punishment from the criminal justice system, but their future could be impacted, as they may struggle to obtain employment or be approved for a loan. This is why drug charges require a strong strategy for criminal defense. Those here in Maryland facing these types of charges may want to work with an attorney to give them the best chance at the most favorable outcome possible.
