Don’t let camping activities land you in jail

On Behalf of | Jul 25, 2017 | Theft & Property Crimes

Going camping is a common summer activity. When you are heading out for a camping trip, you should make sure that you take the time to understand what is allowed where you are going. The last thing that you need is to face criminal charges in connection with your actions during the camping trip.

There are many things that could lead to you facing criminal charges. For example, if you are on federal land, marijuana is illegal. It doesn’t matter if the drug is decriminalized in the state where you are, it is still illegal according to federal law.

Another thing that you have to be careful about is defacing anything while you are camping. You can face vandalism charges if you deface anything. This includes the popular activity of carving initials into trees or writing on rocks. All of this can lead to criminal charges that could impact your entire life.

You also have to be careful about what types of wildlife you kill to eat. For example, killing rattlesnakes is against the law. Find out what types of fish you can enjoy while you are camping so that you don’t end up catching something illegal. You should also find out if you need to get a fishing license to catch fish where you are camping. In some cases, you might need to get a short-term license.

If you end up facing criminal charges because of your camping trip, be sure that you take them seriously. The charges won’t go away, so don’t just ignore them. Instead, start working on a defense as soon as you know the charges.
